Uncle Ben's Rice Time - some are suitable for coeliacs/gluten free

I spotted an ad for Uncle Ben's Rice Time - little duo pots of rice and sauce.  As always on the hunt for food that can safely eaten while travelling I had a look at their website. I don't currently buy any of their products, but could be tempted to try these just for sheer convenience.

I couldn't find an easy list of what was suitable or not on their website so wrote to the company.  A few days later this helpful list arrived.  I will write back and check how many ppm of gluten they count as suitable for coeliacs, as the UK standard has too much in for me

  1. Thanks for this - glad to know it is gf. I had a sweet&sour pot at lunchtime and I feel funny... maybe I ate too fast.

    1. Maybe you don't like chilli or have a reaction to it. my daughter is gluten free and I give uncle ben's express rice all the time, and theres no issue. I give her mexican rice because she loves chilli so like they said it is GF. Although nothing can be guaranteed as 100% GF, after all maybe someone packing it had regular gluten filled bread for lunch and somehow got one or two crumbs into a pack, however unlikely that is, it is possible and therefore you could then eat the product with no knowledge of what has happened. But it's more likely that any germs that you have consumed along with your food are likely to have come from your plate and utensils more so than your food. The other thing is that for most people aside from the odd one in a million, chances are that if you get sick from food it is more likely to be something you ate up to 24 hours prior rather than something you just ate. remember the bacteria need time to get into your system and breed and expand enough to cause problems. this does not happen within a few minutes of eating, it takes hours for the process to occur.
